What is the VGM?

The VGM means Verified Gross Mass; It is the proportional gross weight that includes the weight of all packaging material plus the tare weight of the container.

When is the VGM necessary?

The VGM is required to be sent to the freight forwarder or ocean carrier prior to loading a full container onto a vessel.

How is VGM calculated?

There are two methods for calculating the VGM.

1. Method 1: This is where you inform the weight of the goods.

2. Method 2: This is where you add the container tare weight and the weight of the goods.
